Walking: what's on your doorstep

Rawai and Nai Harn are spread out, but day-to-day life around Green Garden Villas is walkable. Restaurants, cafés, massage studios, Muay Thai gyms, shops, a 7-Eleven and local markets are all within walking distance of the villas.

Nai Harn Beach is 2.2 km (1.4 miles) away. Once you are there, the beach, Nai Harn Lake, Wat Nai Harn and the small village by the lake junction are all within about a 10-minute walk of each other. The flat path around the lake is about 2 km, good for an early walk or jog.

Scooters: licence, helmet and insurance

Because Rawai is spread out, a motorbike is the most practical way to get around for many visitors, and rental is inexpensive. Before you ride, know the rules:

  • Licence: you need a valid International Driving Permit plus your home licence, and to ride a motorbike that licence must cover motorcycles, even if a rental shop says it doesn't matter.
  • Helmets: compulsory for riders and passengers. Police fine riders and passengers without one.
  • Insurance: many rental firms are uninsured, and travel insurance may not cover motorcycling without the right licence.
  • Deposit: never leave your passport as a deposit.

A scooter makes the small coves easy: Ao Sane, just north of Nai Harn, has plenty of room for scooters but little for cars.

Grab and taxis

Grab is widely used in Phuket and is the simplest option for most trips from Nai Harn, especially in the evening, with children, or if you don't hold a motorcycle licence. You see the price before you book and the driver gets an exact pin. Bolt and inDrive also operate but have fewer drivers. Grab is also the only app with an official pickup zone at the airport; see Phuket airport to Nai Harn.

Songthaew, Smart Bus and Old Town shuttle

  • Songthaew (blue bus): open-sided buses run between Ranong Market in Phuket Town and Rawai and Nai Harn, roughly every 30 minutes from about 06:00 to 18:00. There is no evening service, so plan a Grab back if you stay late in town.
  • Phuket Smart Bus: runs between the airport and Rawai Beach, stopping at Kata, Karon, Patong, Kamala and Surin. It does not go into Nai Harn. Timetables and live bus positions are on the OneMap portal (onemap.phuket.cloud).
  • Dragon Line: once in Phuket Town, a free electric shuttle loops through the Old Town, with 16 stops, about 10:00–21:00, roughly every 15 minutes.

Local tips

  • Wear a helmet on every ride, as a passenger too; it is the law, and fines apply.
  • Check with your travel insurer before renting a scooter: without the right motorcycle licence you may not be covered.
  • The blue bus stops running at about 18:00, so for dinner in Phuket Town, plan to come back by Grab.
  • Avoid the 07:00–10:00 and 16:00–18:00 peaks for longer trips such as Patong, Phuket Town or the airport.
  • Heading to Ya Nui or Ao Sane by car in high season? Parking is limited, so go early or take a scooter or Grab.
  • Keep the villa address, 78 Soi Naya, Rawai, saved on your phone for drivers.
